Just a few GP Tips
Some tips I always tell friends new to GW...
1. If you find an item drop that is "highly salvageable" you will actually get more money selling it at a Merchat if you salvage the matierls and sell them rather than selling the weapon itself
2. Keep Gold Items unidetified if you are not going for the Wisdom title, they sell for 500gp-1k each unided to other players
3. Superb Charr Carvings sell for 150gp-200gp each to other players, don't waste them by selling them to Merchants
4. Always check the prices for White or Black dye before you try and sell them, always sell for just 1k under
5. Perform the Elite Zaishen trapping technique daily if given time (easy 4.5k-5k a day)
6. Always salvage perfect weapon upgrades from a weapon, they are worth more by themselves than on the weapon (example, +30 Fortitude upgrade)
About all I can consider off the top of my head, if anyone else has more tips or ideas let me hear them

Not true. It depends what it salvages to. For instance, a 400g HS bow might only salvage into 70 planks, which is 210g. Keep in mind that the HS inscription itself sells for around 400g, if you don't have anything worthwhile to salvage.

300-500 is a better estimate. I haven't been able to sell for above 500g for some time now.

It's a common misconception that this is actually a good farm. It takes about 20-25 minutes to farm the 16 or so battles required to get a Zaishen Key, or 15k/hour in terms of effectiveness. In all honesty, you can get more farming the stone elementals outside of Sardalic Sanitarium in HM. It's much better to farm this for Balth points to unlock skills to get better heroes/skills. I would only recommend this farm to absolute beginners to the game, as even without HM there are still several effective farms in the UW/FoW.
Another few tips I always give to new people:
-Run what you like to run (In terms of skill bars) - If a group doesn't like it, too bad. Hench/heroes are there for a reason.
-Heroes/henchmen are generally more competent then most of the GW population. They also don't complain when you do something stupid.
-wiki.guildwars.com is your friend. If you're running dual monitors, it's a smart idea to keep this up while playing.
-Have some sense of dignity and respect. Don't stoop to arguing with others, it just drags you down to their level where they can beat you down with experience.
-Listen to group members - If they say don't aggro something, then don't.
-Don't listen to stupid people. These are generally quite identifiable by the time you start to get the game's basics down well.
-In terms of what to pick up, when you're beginning, pick up everything.
-In terms of what to identify - If it's blue, purple, or gold, ID it. If it's white, see how much the merchant will pay. If it's above 50g, ID it.
-There are different traders for different things. You will ALWAYS get at least merchant price by selling to respective trader, 99% of the time, you will get more. Rare scrolls are the only exception to this, it's rare to get more.
-Secondary profession skills are supposed to complement your primary profession, not replace it. Don't mistake the two.
-Find a helpful guild asap. It helps a lot.

Thank you, the tips I presented were for newcomers anyway, so it's a decent list for them

If you have gold unids sell them in Rata Sum. The going rate there (and has been steady at this rate for a long time) is 600 gold each.
